'Heritage' is a classic name in raspberries. This HEIRLOOM variety was long considered the standard variety for production and high-quality by which everbearing varieties were judged. A late-season, red variety, harvestable to first frost, the berries have a sweet flavor and great holding ability on the vine. Unlike some varieties, Heritage won't fall to pieces if you delay picking the ripe fruit a day or two; it stays firm, juicy, and super flavorful. Plants are very vigorous and resist powdery mildew. It produces a heavy crop in mid-July, then another crop in late August and September on new canes from the ground. You can even harvest your raspberries in the first year of planting. It has sweet, dark red berries that you can eat fresh, can, freeze, or make some james and jellies. Unlike most raspberry plants, this one is self-supporting. Heritage is self-pollinating but produces more abundantly if pollinated by a second plant. The best raspberries have thorns, and this one does, too.
